About the Institute

The Shamir Research Institute, operating from Katzrin in the heart of the Golan Heights, is a leading center for applied research, innovation, and regional development. The Institute promotes groundbreaking research in agriculture, biotechnology, the environment, and education, while fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and government.

With advanced research infrastructure, top-tier scientists, and socio-economic initiatives across the Golan, the Sea of Galilee, and the valleys, the Institute serves as an engine for regional growth and a strategic partner in developing a sustainable future for Northern Israel.

Core Activities

The Institute established ‘Tura Developments Ltd.’, a subsidiary dedicated to knowledge commercialization and business development. It also founded the Agriculture and Innovation Unit in collaboration with the Golan Regional Council and Mei Golan. Furthermore, the Institute operates a branch in the Druze villages of the Golan in partnership with the four local councils, and an innovation center in the Jordan Valley in partnership with KIC and InnoVallee. These initiatives position the Institute as a cornerstone in the development and strengthening of the Golan and Northern Israeli economy.

The Institute serves as a bridge between academia, industry, and government, promoting research with practical value that leads to scientific innovation and economic growth across diverse fields. As a leading center for applied R&D, it provides scientific solutions to challenges in agriculture, biotechnology, the environment, and education.

The Institute operates advanced research infrastructure, including:

  • Molecular laboratories and culture growth rooms.

  • Advanced imaging systems, including microscopic, genetic, and microbial analysis tools.

  • Application and training farms.

  • An innovative incubator specializing in Agro-tech and Food-tech.
